Presentation and Q&A on planning and recent changes to England’s planning system – Guest Speaker Councillor Alex Coomes – Vice-Chair of Elmbridge Planning Committee

The planning system in England has recently undergone radical change not least with the Government’s introduction in December 2024 of Grey Belt policy.  Green Belt is under attack as never before and applications to build on it are appearing everywhere. The recent application to build 206 homes on the former Moore Place Golf Course is a stark reminder of the reality of the Government’s drive to build 1.5 million new homes in England during this Parliament.

Cllr Alex Coomes has served as an Elmbridge Councillor for over 14 years. He is Chair of the East Area Planning Sub-Committee and also Vice-Chair of the main Planning Committee. Alex joined the three ERA councillors in voting to reject the application. He has also been elected to serve as a councillor on the newly formed East Surrey Council representing Esher as well as Claygate and North Oxshott.

Please come to hear Alex speak and to ask questions on this vitally important matter that affects all residents in the ward of Esher.
