New Mayor of Elmbridge – Richard Williams
We were very pleased to see Cllr. Richard Williams retain his seat on May 4th. after a seemingly endless campaign of manifesto deliveries and canvassing. The ERA continues to hold all three seats in the Esher Ward.
Richard will serve as a Councillor for four years.
Very soon after Richard announced his candidacy, he was invited to take on the role of Mayor of Elmbridge. This was a very unusual situation. Weybridge and St George’s Hill councillor Charu Sood had been Deputy Mayor for 2022/3, but has been unwell and felt unable to take up the post of Mayor for 2023/4. Richard was delighted and honoured to step into the breach and Cllr. Sood will continue as Deputy Mayor for the year.
At the full Council meeting on May 17th, Richard officially took on the Mayoral role, succeeding our own Cllr. Simon Waugh, who is now Deputy leader of the Council.
I’m sure you will join me in congratulating Richard on his new post.
