Esher businesses back a Business Improvement District

Positive change to the High Street is on its way

On Thursday 13 November, Esher businesses voted to back a business improvement district (BID).

Developed by businesses, for businesses the Esher BID will deliver a five-year plan backed by over £700,000 in investment. The BID will represent more than 180 businesses, all working together to enhance the local trading environment and secure a thriving future for Esher.

The business plan was supported by a majority of those voting by number and rateable value with:

  • 80% voting YES by number
  • 84% voting YES by rateable value

Lucy Roshier, Killik & Co and Chair of the Esher BID Task Group, said

Having proudly served the Esher community for over 25 years from our branch on Esher High Street, we think the BID represents a unique opportunity for businesses to influence positive change and improvements in our town.

Councillor Kirsty Hewens, Portfolio Holder for Enterprise, Parking and Local Economy, added

Esher is a fantastic town centre and i’m sure the BID will be a great success. We look forward to working with the new BID to ensure Esher continues to thrive. Congratulations to everyone involved.

It would be interesting to know something about the plans for the £700,000 investment. It’s not really that much money, spread across 180 businesses, so it’s hard to anticipate big changes unless there’s also some significant non-monetary activity involved. Best wishes to all for some good results, anyway!
