Hersham Golf Club Footpath News

Since we featured the parlous state of this footpath in our last newsletter, a number of residents have written to us complaining about the rubbish on the path, the holes in the golf club fencing and the graffiti.

Rubbish

It has taken some months, but Amey, the Elmbridge BC contractor has removed some of the rubbish on the path. They were slow off the mark and we are not convinced that that this will solve the problem in the long term.

We are wondering if any local residents would like to set up and run a regular litter pick. We are happy to liaise with Elmbridge BC and Amey to make this happen.

Fencing

We have met with the team at Hersham Golf Club to discuss their fencing. They say that the moment it is fixed, vandals cut it again to get onto the golf course. It seems that the Club is not in a strong enough financial position to extend the robust fencing that appears at the Molesey Road end of the path.

As you may be aware, a developer is about to apply for planning permission to build houses on part of the golf course.

For the moment we can’t see an opportunity for progress on this until the planning application is decided.

Graffiti

Again, after some determined pushing, we are making some progress. An email from the team who will deal with the graffiti reads:

“Amey has advised that due to the location they are unable to use their high pressure removal kit, instead the only alternative would be to paint over the graffiti. This does not include painting the whole structure and as the fence panels and structures are privately owned, we are writing to the affected residents to inform them of the planned work. This will allow them to either resolve it themselves (if they do not agree with the method of covering the graffiti) or give permission for Amey to paint over it. Residents have between 2-4 weeks to let us know if they have any objections”.
